I am Ever, a French globetrotteur who has lived in Scotland, Ireland and now Québec. I travel alone and off-season, mostly by train, and I write about the places that do not usually make the list — all the words and photographs here are mine.

The story so far

Growing up

I grew up in Strasbourg

On the French side of the border, and I went to school in two countries. Crossing one to get to a classroom is probably why going somewhere never felt like a big undertaking.

September 2023

I moved to Scotland

I went there to study languages. Most weekends I took a train to a station I had never heard of, to see what was there.

2024

What people were actually after

The industry kept saying the same thing: more and more people want the unusual, the off the beaten path. It was exactly what I wanted to write about.

October 2024

The blog got funded

During my master’s in tourism in Dublin I pitched a blog about the less obvious parts of Britain and Ireland. It won a scholarship. That pitch is this website.

August 2026

I moved to Canada

I am in Québec now, studying digital marketing. The blog came with me, and North America is going on the map.

How a guide gets made

Go

Alone, off-season, on a train. Two or three days is usually enough.

Look

Off-season, when nobody is in the frame and the light stays low all day.

Ask

Cafés, bus drivers, the woman in the shop. They know the good part.

Write

Weeks later, once I know which bits I still remember.

Questions I get asked

How do you know somewhere is worth the detour?

Because I have been. I go alone and off-season, stay two or three days, and walk it properly. If somewhere turns out not to be worth the trip, it does not get a guide.

Why the small places?

Because the famous ones are already covered by everybody, and because the day usually gets better about forty minutes past where the coaches stop. I still go to the big cities. I just do not only go there.

Can I do these without a car?

Almost all of them, and that is deliberate. Where somewhere really does need a car, the guide says so at the top rather than at the bottom.

Which camera do you use?

An iPhone 13. Every photograph on this site was taken on it, and a proper camera is the next thing I buy.
