Dublin is a fascinating city, full of history, culture, and energy, but like any busy city, it can wear you down. Sometimes, you just need to step away from the hustle and bustle and find a bit of calm among the greenery. From Phoenix Park, Europe’s largest enclosed park, to smaller secret gardens tucked away in the heart of the city, Dublin offers plenty of green spaces to escape the city noise. Here are my top five best parks in Dublin to find peace and quiet.

The National Botanic Gardens
Location: Dublin 9

The National Botanic Gardens are my favourite park in Dublin — the perfect spot to spend a peaceful afternoon wandering through tall trees, quiet ponds, Victorian glasshouses, and the rosary and rock gardens. Right next to the gardens, through a small gate, is Glasnevin Cemetery. It’s one of Ireland’s oldest and most famous graveyards, full of ancient headstones and fascinating stories, which you can discover at the Glasnevin Museum. The best part of the cemetery? O’Connell Tower, or as I like to call it, Rapunzel Tower. Built in 1855 as a memorial for Daniel O’Connell, one of Ireland’s greatest historical figures, it’s the highest point in Dublin (and you can climb it for breathtaking views of the city).
Phoenix Park
Location: Dublin 8

Looking for peace and quiet? Phoenix Park, Europe’s biggest park, is the perfect place for it. As the largest enclosed park within a European capital, Phoenix Park is an ideal escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. On a sunny day, it’s a great spot to go for a walk, admire the Wellington Monument, visit Dublin Zoo and enjoy the colourful people’s flower gardens. Phoenix Park is also home to Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland (open to the public on Saturdays). With all there is to see and do, my absolute favourite has to be spotting the deer that roam freely in the park (remains from when Phoenix Park was a royal hunting ground).
St Stephen’s Green
Location: Dublin 2

Undoubtedly one of Dublin’s most popular parks, St Stephen’s Green is a lovely place to relax or have a picnic right in the city centre. Small but charming, the park is full of colourful flower beds, a lovely pond with a quaint gazebo, and plenty of benches perfect for bird (or people) watching. Situated at the end of Grafton Street, it’s a favourite among locals and visitors alike. That said, because of its popularity, it can get pretty crowded on sunny days, which is why I recommend Iveagh Gardens, a park just five minutes away that’s much more peaceful and quiet.
Iveagh Gardens
Location: Dublin 2
Just five minutes from St Stephen’s Green, Iveagh Gardens offers a quieter escape. Originally part of an earl’s estate, the gardens were redesigned by Ninian Niven in 1865 and later restored to preserve many original features like the yew maze, rosarium and fountains. With its woodlands, maze, and even a secret grotto (if you can find it), it’s a hidden gem right in the heart of Dublin. Known as Dublin’s secret garden, it’s full of quiet spots to sit and winding paths to explore, making it the perfect place for a peaceful break without leaving the city centre.
Blessington Street Basin
Location: Dublin 7

Blessington Street Basin is a quiet and charming park in Dublin North, not far from the city centre. This former Victorian reservoir, built in the early 19th century to supply Dublin with fresh water, is now a peaceful park built around a pond, with plenty of trees and colourful flower beds. It’s a lovely place to escape the noise of Dublin and enjoy the calming stillness of the water. Popular among, if not tourists, then at least ducks and pigeons, it’s a surprisingly entertaining spot for birdwatching.

Dublin can be a busy and noisy city, but these parks are the perfect place to breathe in some fresh air and recharge your batteries. Whether you prefer smaller and more intimate parks such as Iveagh Gardens, or grand open spaces like Phoenix Park, Ireland’s capital has plenty to offer to satisfy all tastes.
