Where I studied, and where most weekends went on a train to a station I had never heard of.

I moved to Scotland in September 2023 to study languages. The habit started there: pick a station, go, and see what is at the other end. Six guides so far, two cities and two journeys made on foot and on water.

The cities

Edinburgh

Where I studied. Climb Salisbury Crags first thing, then do the museums, which are free and better than they need to be.

Glasgow

Bigger, louder and friendlier than Edinburgh, and usually cheaper. People talk to you here.

The long ways through

The River Tweed

Two days walking out of Berwick and into Scotland with a tent on my back, following the river the whole way.

The Great Glen Way

Three days in a canoe straight across the Highlands, camping on the bank wherever we stopped.

The Highlands, the islands and the far north are still ahead of me. They will appear here as they get written.
